about

Pygmalistique is a quintessential proto-zouk fusion album by the French studio project Puzzle Pulsion originally released in 1986, and available now, nearly forty years later, via Anthology Recordings. The hybridization of pygmy music, Caribbean-influenced funk, and an expertly programmed rhythm section explored by Patrick Valey, aka Groovy, and Jean Arcon, aka Tyjan, on Pygmalistique make this excessively scarce album one of the more unusual and desirable platters in the zouk cannon. With notable hired guns Armand Sabbal Leco and Michel Alibo picked to play from the Tempo 3 studio scene in Paris, Valey and Acron bridged the gap on Pygmalistique between ancient tradition and contemporary expression, leaving a colorful one-off album that goes hard to this day.
